SardeSicilians do like their sardines! The pics were taken at a food market in central Palermo. There were fresh sardines filleted and ready to grill and tinned, salted sardines. Sardines on toast is such an easy dish to make.

Recipe: Sardines on Toast
Take salted sardines add them to fresh bread adding some fresh tomato slices or tomato sauce and you have a delicious meal. For those who don't have that you can use tomato Ketchup.

Tomato pasteFresh tomato paste sold by the kilo at the Bellaro market in Palermo. All you need is a small amount of this, mixed with water to give you a flavour burst for any of your pasta dishes. It looked very impressive on display and I could even smell it when taking the photo.

Now this is fresh

Although there is no regard for 'health and safety' (I love the cigarette) this is truly fresh fish from the sea being cut and sold in a market in Palermo. Am sure these men have been doing this for ages so I would not doubt the freshness. It was a delight walking through this market with J-Lo, the sights and sounds were great -and am sure they were not selling any brown edged salmon!

(from BestofSicily.com) This market called Mercatto Vucceria (from the Norman French "boucherie"), is perhaps the favourite Palermitan market for visitors. It begins at Piazza San Domenico toward Piazza Caracciolo and Corso Vittorio Emanuele, branching off along Via Argenteria.
